The fastener exports of Jiaxing city rose 30.90 percent to USD 1023.46 million with the export volume of 715516 tons, up 9.5 percent in 2011 from a year earlier, a mild slowdown from the last year. On the contrary, the price of Jiaxing’s fastener exports in 2011 averaged at USD 1430/ton, posting a high rise of 19.8 percent compared with the year of 2010.

Jiaxing Fastener Exports Highlights:

1. The export showed a mild slowdown from the last year. Although the total export value of Jiaxing city rose 30.90 percent to USD 1023.46 million, the steel fastener exports increased only 30.05 percent to USD 1018.65 million compared with the growth of 51.55 percent in 2010, and the copper fastener exports dropped 6.57 percent to USD 3.42 million. Aluminum fastener exports posted the largest increase of 49.29 percent to USD 1.39 million. Among all the exported categories, copper washers had the largest export gain at 93.30 percent followed by coach screws and other steel or iron threaded products with the growth of 48.00 percent and 43.87 percent, respectively. Other steel or iron non-threaded products declined 57.10 percent.

2. Europe and America were still the main importers of Jiaxing’s fasteners but the exports to EU dropped due to EU’s debt crisis. The fastener exports to America were up 30.70 percent to USD 212.32 million while to EU increased 29.63 percent to USD 223.97 million. Jiaxing’s fastener exports to these two markets accounted for 42.63 percent of the total export value, down 0.29 percent compared with a year earlier.

3. Exports to the emerging markets continue to rise. The fastener exports to the traditional markets when kept a steady increase saw a surge in the emerging markets in 2011. Exports to Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Mexico, Chile and Russia rose 57.28 percent, 56.19 percent, 55.96 percent, 52.91 percent, 51.76 percent and 50.07 percent, respectively.

4. Export prices keep surging. The average price for Jiaxing city’s fasteners was up 19.8 percent to USD1430/ton in 2011. For steel fasteners, the average price was up 19.95 percent to USD1425/ton. The average price for copper fasteners was up 19.06 percent to USD10059/ton, and was up 7.21 percent to USD 2603/ton for aluminum fasteners.
