Ningbo Weiye Corp. is a corporation that engages in hardware production and foreign trade. Its main product is fastener, with other hardware for assembly as supplement. Of all the fasteners, Weiye mainly focuses on various types of non-standard parts, taking up 70% of its output. Ms. Yang Jiying, General Manager of Weiye, said, "The production costs of fasteners in Ningbo grow year by year, and we are always thinking of walking a special route, so we choose to develop non-standard parts. As a result, we spend a lot of money on it."


How much has Weiye spent in achieving its "special route"? Above all, let's look at what it has done on its hardware facilities.


3 Main Sectors of Company Structure

At present, Weiye has its own factory and a relatively independent logistic storage center. Trading company, factory and logistic center is the three main sectors of Weiye. They are considered as an organic whole that cannot be separated, jointly making Weiye become an integrated enterprise featuring factory, trade and research.


When talking about the newly-built logistic center, Ms.Yang smiled happily and become talkative, as if a mother is talking about her child to others.


The function of the logistic storage center is to provide logistic service for trading company; meanwhile, it is also a small production base that produces some difficult products. Those products that Weiye could not produce are brought from its partners. Based on a responsible attitude, the company will strictly inspect the products again, which fully reflects the effect of logistic storage center. Clean up the unqualified products and reproduce, while repack those of bad packaging.


Ms. Yang said, "Quality does not just refer to interior, but also exterior. Packaging is an important process. The products cannot really meet the requirement of quality unless every process has been well done."


Definitely, factory mainly engages in product manufacturing. In recent years, Weiye has introduced many new equipment and two processing lines for heat treatment. After learning this, we can see its devotion and resolution.


From production to processing, inspection and packaging, Weiye has achieved "quality priority", making quality under good control, which generates Weiye people's dedication.


When talking about quality control, we have to talk about the Waterloo that Weiye once encountered. However, it is that failure that inspires Weiye to deepen the awareness of quality inspection. When Weiye began to transfer to develop non-standard parts, it received an order from a customer who wanted a special product. Of course, having an order was a piece of good news. Unfortunately, the company did not get a full understanding of customer's requirement. Furthermore, they get used to making the standard parts, and thought lightly of it as if it was not difficult at all. In this way, they produced it according to their regular practice. After the goods being delivered to the customer, he did not inspect carefully either and directly applied the products to streaming lines. A serious problem was found, and some of customer’s streaming lines had to stop running.


According the common practice, it is natural to have 2% to 3% unqualified products. While for non-standard parts, the unqualified products should be thousandths or ten thousandths. That Weiye was lacking experience at that time resulted in the failure.


"We found out what we were short of and took measures immediately." Ms. Yang said with deep emotion. "First of all we should change our idea. When people encounter bottleneck, many of them find it difficult to break through. Once it is solved, they will upgrade to a higher level. We have spent lots of energy and made painstaking efforts to change the idea, from above, to middle, and then to the base. We strive for making everyone realize the change. In addition, we make up our shortage in terms of personnel collocation, technical upgrade, management, equipment update, etc."


The upgrade of quality and corporate image involves two parts: One is hardware, say factory, warehouse, equipment, etc. It is the key factor that determines the quality of products. If you have no hand you can't make a fist. It is almost impossible for bad facilities to make products of good quality. The other is software, which is the essential factor that concerns the sustainable development of a company.

Ms. Yang told me that Weiye attached great importance to software in the following three aspects:

1.Management System

Weiye has adopted ERP management software for several years and also has successfully passed ISO certification. "We passed it by our strength. None of the items are unqualified, which makes us proud and gratified." Ms. Yang proudly said.

2.Company Culture and Company Statement

Entering weiye's meeting room, a long clean plaque with 16 Chinese characters written on can be seen, which means "people-oriented, surviving by quality, doing business with a sincere heart, constant improvement" in English. Though it is very easy for us to understand, it is not a piece of cake when we use them in practice. Weiye explained the meanings of these 16 Chinese characters: People-oriented refers to show fully respect for our staff, believe our staff, train our staff, and put people in the first place. Surviving by quality means, whatever types of products, whatever the requirement is, the company always attaches great importance to quality, and makes great effort to do it in a down-to-earth attitude. 3. Staff Training

In terms of staff training, they have spent lots of painstaking efforts and costs. Ms. Yang said, "We should choose the good seeds at first, and spend time in cultivating them." For Weiye chooses a special route, their difficulties and risks increase accordingly. Therefore, they raise higher requirement for their staff. For example, on educational background, communication abilities, language skills, etc. Besides, they provide various training courses for the newcomers, including professional skill training, job training, concept training, etc.
